Marina and quayside apartments
An allocated bay is enough. We set up in the neighbouring space if one is free, or work tight to your own if not. Everything is self-contained, so no cables and no hose — nothing a management company can object to.
A fifteen-minute run from Nailsea. Portishead is mostly newer housing with allocated parking rather than driveways, which suits a fully self-contained rig — we need one bay beside your car and nothing else at all.
Portishead has grown faster than almost anywhere in North Somerset, and the way it was built shapes the detailing. The Marina and the newer quarters are apartments and townhouses with allocated bays or undercroft parking, not driveways. There is rarely an outdoor tap and almost never a socket you could reach. That rules out most mobile valeters, who quietly depend on your water. It does not affect us, because the tank and the generator come with the van.
The exposure is the other half of it. Portishead sits high on the Severn with very little between the estuary and the parked cars, and the wind carries salt inland much further than people assume — Redcliffe Bay and the roads above the golf course get it as much as the front does. Cars here rarely look dramatically dirty. They just go quietly flat, because a persistent salt haze dulls the clearcoat long before it looks like it needs washing.

Portishead parking is the thing that decides how a booking runs. Here is what each situation actually means on the day.
An allocated bay is enough. We set up in the neighbouring space if one is free, or work tight to your own if not. Everything is self-contained, so no cables and no hose — nothing a management company can object to.
Workable, and in bad weather genuinely better than outside. We need headroom for the polisher and enough light, so tell us which level and we will bring extra lighting if it is a dark bay.
Driveways or shared courtyards, plenty of room, straightforward. This is where most of our full corrections in BS20 happen simply because there is space to work all the way round the car.
On-street, and often on a slope. We plan the rinse direction so nothing runs down into a neighbour’s space, which sounds trivial and is the thing people actually remember.
Salt-laden wind is a slower, more even attack than the silt film you get further down the coast at Clevedon. It does not cake on. It settles in a thin layer everywhere, including the places you never wash — the shuts, the underside of the sills, the top of the roof rails. Left alone it works into every seam, and it is the reason coastal cars start showing corrosion at panel edges years before an identical inland car does.
Practically, that means our Portishead work leans on decontamination and protection rather than heavy correction. An iron fallout treatment and a proper clay pull twice a year does more for a car up here than an extra polishing stage. And because the exposure never stops, a durable coating pays back faster in BS20 than almost anywhere else we cover.
Yes. One bay for your car, and ideally a free space next to it for the rig — but we can work without one if it is tight. We bring 350L of deionised water and our own power, so there is nothing to plug in and nothing running across shared ground.
Usually not, because we look like a car being washed by hand rather than a commercial setup — no gazebo, no pressure washer running off the building, no hoses. If your block has a specific rule, tell us and we will work to it or suggest a nearby alternative.
That is the classic Portishead symptom. Airborne salt leaves a fine even haze that scatters light rather than an obvious layer of dirt. Washing does not fix it because it is bonded, not sitting on top. A decontamination wash with an iron fallout treatment and a clay pull usually brings the gloss straight back without any machine work.
Yes, both are BS20 and part of standard coverage with no travel fee, as is Ham Green and the run along Sheepway.
More so here than inland. The value is not just gloss — it is that a coated panel releases salt with a plain rinse, so the car needs contact washing far less often. Less contact washing means fewer swirls, which is the main thing that ages coastal paint.
